Science Simplified: Amino Acids, Peptides, Proteins #shorts #science #collagen

This video explains the key differences between AMINO ACIDS, PEPTIDES, and PROTEINS. Check out “Collagen Explained,” where I tie this concept into collagen peptides and their absorption into our bodies. I explain what collagen peptides are, how we absorb them, and most importantly…what the EVIDENCE says. #shorts #peptides #collagen #science

My Initial Thoughts About Collagen Peptides #shorts

My hypothesis (before conducting hours of research) was that collagen peptides were going to be worthless. It seemed too good to be true that small peptides could really evade our stomach acid and get absorbed in their intact form. Not to mention then circulating through our bloodstream and actually having an impact on collagen production in our skin. Suffice it to say that I went into this one with an EXTREMELY skeptical and critical eye. Find out whether or not I changed my mind after reviewing all the research. We discuss the EVIDENCE and conclusions based on actual research, not just hype. Full video is live on our channel Coffee Break MD. #shorts

Beware of Caterpillar #shorts

The puss caterpillar, also known as the southern flannel moth, is by far the most deceptively cuddly looking creature on the planet (fact—not opinion). Totally random I know, but these things actually exist. My encounter with this prickly venomous beast shaped me into the strong and capable physician I am today. Without this experience, I’d still be sitting under that banyan tree waiting for something to happen. #shorts #caterpillars #pusscaterpillar #venom #venomouscaterpillars #poisoncontrol #lepidopterist #entomology #nature #danger #venomous #poisonous #poison #rash #skinrash #sting #science #research #evidence #skincare #skincareroutine #skincaresteps #dermatology #dermatologist #boardcertified #boardcertifieddermatologist

Eczema vs Gluten Allergy #shorts

Know the difference! Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a common genetic condition that can flare with a variety of exposures. These kids need consistent moisturizing and avoidance of external triggers. Dermatitis herpetiformis is a rare skin reaction that can happen in people who have gluten intolerance. This skin rash is ONLY possible in patients who already have antibodies to gluten, because it’s these gluten antibodies that change their structure and accidentally cause damage to our skin. In these patients, their skin rash will only flare when they have gluten in their system. We can even use their skin health as an indirect marker for how well they are avoiding gluten! As always, all comments and questions welcome! Images obtained from DermNet NZ (https://dermnetnz.org/topics/dermatitis-herpetiformis) #shorts

Is THIS Keeping Your Baby Up At Night? #shorts

Dairy sensitivity is often overlooked as a cause of upset stomach in babies. I was surprised to find how easily we absorb dairy specific peptides into our bloodstream. And this causes them to end up in our breast milk (well… your breast milk… me not included) The moral of the story for all nursing mothers: if you drink milk, your baby does too. #shorts

Food Allergies: The Cause #shorts

How do we get food allergies? It’s NOT from eating foods. The truth is: our body is able to tolerate/tolerize foods that we eat by mouth. It’s only when these foods enter our SKIN that we risk developing an allergy to them. This is why it is CRUCIAL to introduce foods by MOUTH early in childhood to train our immune system to see food as…well, food. #shorts

Clinical Affairs: Episode 3 #shorts

It’s funny because I should learn the names of these things. Who else knows the feeling of panic when echoing clang resonates through the room?

Treat Psoriasis Like A Dermatologist: Step 1 Topical Steroids

Treat Psoriasis Like A Dermatologist: Step 2 Steroid Injections

Treat psoriasis like a dermatologist in 5 steps. Step 2: Steroid Injections Steroid injections are stronger, faster, and more accurate that topicals. We get through the surface of the skin and put the medicine where it needs to go. This can be done in a series of treatments every 4-6 weeks or so. But often one treatment is enough to clear stubborn psoriasis plaques. Ideal for small localized areas. Not the best for widespread psoriasis.

Treat Psoriasis Like A Dermatologist: Step 3 Lights

Treat psoriasis like a dermatologist in 5 steps. Step 3: Lights Lights are a great treatment option for people who have an open schedule and want to avoid side effects. We have to slowly increase the exposure over time to prevent burns… …so it takes a while before you start to clear. Can treat full body or local areas. UV light should be avoided in people with photosensitive disorders such as lupus.

Treat Psoriasis Like A Dermatologist: Step 4 Cheap Pills

Treat psoriasis like a dermatologist in 5 steps. Step 4: Cheap Pills Systemic treatment is quickly becoming a first choice for many patients. The oral medicines we have are well established and overall well tolerated by most. The main side effects are as follows: Methotrexate has lowers your immune system and affects your liver. Acitretin is also hard on the liver. Apremilast commonly causes nausea and diarrhea. But these are generally great options for people who don’t want the hassle of slathering creams on all day, but also don’t want to inject themselves at home either.
